Football legend Bobby Charlton delighted with the partnership

Viva Bahrain and Manchester United signed a partnership agreement yesterday that will enable the company’s customers to benefit from a host of unique and exclusive services.

The event, which took place at the Royal Golf Club in Riffa, witnessed the presence of a number of senior officials from both sides. Among the attendees was former Manchester United player and legend Sir Robert “Bobby” Charlton who expressed his delight at the signing of the partnership with VIVABahrain.

Following the ceremony, Sir Bobby spoke to Bahrain Tribune about several issues surrounding Manchester United and the English football team.

The 73-year-old legend believes that England has all it takes to lift the forthcoming World Cup under Fabio Capello. “In Capello we found the missing piece to achieve the success in the World Cup. We needed a leader, a real one. We were looking at him for a long time before we signed him,” Sir Bobby said. According to him, Capello was a disciplinarian, who had the muchneeded skills to lead a group and get the best out of each player. “I won’t say we are the favourites, but England will definitely be a difficult opponent for any team,” he asserted.

Asked who he thinks will win the World Cup, Sir Bobby replied with a shrug: “If I bet, I would say Spain. They are the reigning European champions, and they have players of top quality.”  Sir Bobby then went on to talk about Manchester United, the team he served for nearly 19 years, starting in 1954. “This club has given the world of football many great players including Cristiano Ronaldo, who unfortunately decided to leave to Real Madrid.” Sir Bobby lauded the Portuguese super star’s abilities, describing him as irreplaceable.  “It’s hard to find someone to fill his place. Cristiano Ronaldo is a great player, and that’s one reason Manchester United didn’t go to the market to find a replacement for him.” “But there are other good players and Alex Ferguson (Manchester United’s coach) can convert them all to Cristianos,” he added. “There are many good players who have come to Manchester United and exploded into super stars. It’s simply because when they join the club they receive the best treatment.” Sir Alex Ferguson, 69, has achieved incredible success with Manchester United over the course of 25 years.

“He (Sir Alex Ferguson) is a great tactician and I can’t even think of a future without him. His body language suggests that he will be okay for a while. He still has the enthusiasm for the game,” replied Sir Bobby to a question on who would replace the Scottish tactician should he decide to retire. “But should such a thing happen, Man U will look in the right direction for the right person,” Sir Bobby said with an optimistic smile.
